Original First United Kingdom edition in a new facsimile jacket which is a copy of the original rather plain Macmillan jacket that was issued in 1914 with the book. Has a previous owner's bookplate on the front paste-down showing previous ownership by a Rear Admiral in the Medical Corps, USNR. [Circa 1950's bookplate with family arms and Rear Admiral ... etc on it.] More important is the original H.G. Wells autograph in ink with only these and no other words: "VH from H.G. Wells." Scrawled in Well's well-known contemporary unique and simple handwriting on the front free endpaper. Browning to endpapers and light foxing. Light foxing also to ads at back and typical ageing to paper. Top edge gilt shows light to medium wear. Light uniform spine fading; a little lighter than the sage-green covers. Also has some light rubs to spine front joint and light wear to edges and corners. Has the embossed blind-stamped atom-bomb like decoration on the front cover. Overall in antiquarian good-used condition - about what one might expect for a book from 1914 that was probably read more than once. Not enough can be said about this important and considered the best prophetic novel Well's ever wrote. Also, has the many-clear details and scientific processes concerning atomic-decay and the intermolecular power of uranium as it decays. Much on using atomic forces for good and light but is famous for including the words "atomic bomb" in several areas of the book - a term developed first by H.G. Wells and thought to be instrumental in the final development of the atomic bomb and nuclear resources that could be used for the good of mankind. Sometimes this title is overlooked as to its importance and the possibility of purchasing one signed on the endpaper by H.G. Well's is only know in about 4 instances over the last 40 years or so (2018).
