Dated: October 30, 1950. "Personal [underlined in type] Dear Mr. Harte://My friend David Morgan sent me a copy of/your interview with him on our experience/in the oil business. Dave knows the facts/better than anybody and stated them correctly./Your article was a good one./Sincerely yours,/ HARRY S. TRUMAN [bold rubberstamp face - carbon]/Mr. Houston Harte/Publisher/San Angelo Standard-Times/San Angelo, Texas" This Carbon probably comes from the San Angelo Standard-Times newspaper file from long ago. Together with this is a newspaper article (8' x 11') from the Standard-times that is in great shape and yellowed with age that interprets the letter. The 3/4" typeface headlines emote, "TRUMAN GAVE UP MILLIONS TO FIGHT IN WORLD WAR 1" The article lays the claim and also contains a photograph of "Harry Truman Wildcatted in Texas." An interesting 2 pieces of Americana. Historians and entrepeneurs alike gander at the audacity of such a claim - which here is endorsed by Truman (Yikes!). The man gave up millions??? I don't think so . . .
